Mental Health

Evidence is accruing that interventions not only at the risk group level but also at the population level have a larger impact on alleviating mental disorder and creating resilience. To achieve its MH goals, MVI focuses on professional and community education and entertainment, addressing locally key sensitive problems of trauma, mental and social health as well as behavioral medicine issues.

Social Harmony

Ethnic and religious differences are often the roots for daily life tensions, conflicts and clashes among members of modern and traditional societies alike. Social Harmony is intrinsically linked to the promotion of mental health, by fostering diversity awareness, tolerance and respect among the various social groups, cultures, communities, religious groups and societies.

Trauma relief in emergencies

In a world where emergencies caused by natural disasters or terror are becoming more frequent, trauma relief is a necessity that many societies are not fit to provide. In the same line, post-trauma treatments require an extended period of support through different forms of interventions, some of which could be media-based. MVI trains and provides guidance to MH professionals dealing with these contingencies, as well as examples of communication products for the afflicted populations. Similar interventions are organized supporting displaced populations, such as refugees or immigrants.

Parenting

Parenting is not any more a matter of clear set rules and gradual responsibilities. Traditional family models are frequently rejected or not-functional. Given the changes in modern world, there is a common need for updated notions of what it means to be a parent nowadays, specially so in Africa, where the context changes rapidly and deeply by factors like HIV/AIDS, ethnic tensions, war and many others. Parents and grandparents cannot use the context of their own upbringing as a meaningful framework. MVI intends to organize a media based participatory “School for Parenting” adapted to the needs of the countries.
